Current Project: Noxic
Since roughly June this year I have been working on a new project. Several personal upheavals had left me with a sense of needing to start something new, and the basic blocks of the concept for this game is something I have had in mind for a while now. Let me elaborate on the specifics a little below.
Noxic is a small-scale game meant for iOS and Android. It is a 2D endless runner in the sense that it consists of running through an endless level until you die, but the focus of the game is vastly different from the action and reflexes oriented runners like Temple Run or Jetpack Joyride. I want to use the endless runner mechanic in an abstract horror setting. The central premise is the last being of light running from an aggressive and engulfing darkness.
In keeping with my love for minimalist design, the interaction will be kept as simple as possible, with either 2 or 3 possible actions depending on testing. One for running/stopping, and one context related button for either charging the Light at specific locations or using it as a shield. The tension in the game will emerge from the choice between stopping and running, arming yourself for defense or trying to put as much distance between yourself and the darkness as possible.
The game design is largely done, though development is still in early stages. Initial stages have been promising though. Further developments will be on this blog.
